Addiction Recovery Coaching
Addiction recovery on your terms.
Why recovery coaching?
Maybe you’ve just gotten out of rehab and you are scared that relapse is just around the corner. Or, you have never liked the idea of going to 12-step groups or don’t have time during your day to get there. Recovery coaching is quite likely the answer you’ve been looking for.
If you are looking to forge ahead with your future instead of dwelling on your past then recovery coaching is for you! We support positive change, will work with you on your life goals whether it is related to addiction or not. We will focus on a strength-based way to help you. Recovery coaching is a collaborative process, putting you in the driver’s seat of your own recovery journey.
In addition to goal setting and planning, we also offer brain health and nutrition. We recognize that you can’t always think your way into recovery. Your brain and body have been through a lot with brain health and recovery nutrition we can help you recover easier and longer.
With our recovery coaching services we recognize that there are many ways to recover your life and you get to choose the way that works best for you. The best part about recovery coaching is that there are no required meetings to attend. 12-step meetings are welcome, but they aren’t mandatory. Basically we will encourage you to try what works for you.
Recovery coaching is also very flexible. We can schedule in person meetings (if you are local), on the phone or via the web. Recovery has never been more convenient!
Fear and shame have ruled your world and probably have kept the addiction alive. So much so that you might be afraid of ‘failing’ your newly found sobriety, Recovery coaches aren’t shame based, past based or defect based. We are person centered ‘you’ based.
Here’s a little backstory about recovery coaching that we found interesting. The band Aerosmith was one of the first to contract with a recovery coach back in 1984. The band collectively failed in sobriety by traditional methods. Their drug and alcohol abuse was dragging down their album sales and their tour. By hiring a recovery coach they were able to maintain sobriety throughout their tour and beyond. This was when recovery coaching hit the mainstream.
Recovery Coaching became more developed and professional in 2003 as a professional life-coaching niche. Alida Schuyler, a coach credentialed by the International Coach Federation (ICF) and a woman in recovery from addiction wrote the first recovery coach certification training program specifically aimed at training students to coach persons with addictions. I had the privilege to study recovery coaching from Alida and haven’t looked back since.
Recovery coaching is gaining in popularity among celebrities and now is becoming a more mainstream approach to sobriety across the county. We use a partnership model wherein you are considered to be the expert on your own life, the one who decides what is worth doing, and we will provide expertise in supporting successful change.
Also we can provide additional services such as being a sober companion. That way when you have an event that would typically be problematic (much like Aerosmith on tour) we will accompany you keeping you out of the addiction cycle.
What is recovery coaching?
Let’s do this!
You have probably struggled with feeling worthless. So much so that instead of trying something new you get stuck in how other people want you to recover. This doesn’t work. We encourage you to lead the way in your own recovery process. It’s your journey, your life and your recovery.
As a Recovery Coach in 26 years of recovery myself, I am thrilled to be helping you with your sober journey! I have focused my education and training on coaching for alcohol problems but work with all addictions.
If you were a binge drinker, a daily drinker or drinking is causing a bunch of problems and you are ready for a change, then you are in the right spot. If you are fresh out of rehab for other addictions then recovery coaching rounds out your recovery journey. If the 12-step program is not appealing, or you have tried it before and it just didn’t fit, then Recovery Coaching is a great option for you.
If you have quit drinking and using drugs and now find yourself struggling to stay sober and picking up the pieces of your life, give me a call.
